Iliohypogastric(IHG)

B.F.: T12-L1

M.S.: TVA & Internal Obliques

C.B.: Anterior C.R.(above the inguinal ligament/below stomach) & Lateral C.R.(Lateral gluteal area)

Location:

-E. from upper part of lat. border of Psoas, ---Crosses obliquely in front of QL, posterior to kidneys

-Perforates post part of TVA, near ilium crest

Ilioingiunal(IIG)

B.F.: L1

M.S.: TVA & Internal Obliques(Communicates w/ Iliohypogastic nerve)

C.B.: Ant. Scrotal Nerves(Males) & Ant. Labial Nerves(Females)

-Sends sensory info to skin over the pubic symphysis

Location:

-E. Just inf. to IHG

-Crosses obliquely in front of QL & iliacus

-Perforates TVA near ant. iliac crest and communicates with IHG

-Perforates IO=>superficial inguinal ring

Genitofemoral

B.F.: L1-2

M.S.: Cremaster in males

C.B.: Femoral Ramus(Ant. upper part of thigh) & Genital Ramus(Ant. scrotal skin(males) and skin of the mons pubis and labia majora(females)

Location:

-Pierces Psoas below IHG & IIG.

-Immediately split into two different cutaneous branches

Lateral Femoral Cutaneous

B.F.: L2-3

M.S.: N/A

C.B.:

-(General)Lateral Side of the thigh from the TFL to the Lat. femoral condyle

-(Ant. Branch)Anterior & Lat. parts of the thigh as far as the knee.(Com. w/ saphenous & ant. C.B. of saphenous nerve)

-(Post. Branch)Supplies skin from lvl of greater trochantor=>mid thigh of post. lat. side of body

Location:

-Pierces Psoas on lat. side, runs obliquely down toward illiacus muscle=>ASIS

-Under inguinal ligament=> lacuna musculorum, =>over the sartorius into thigh.

Obturator

B.F.: L2-4

M.S.: Obturator Externus, Adductors(P.B.L.M.G.)

C.B.: Patellar Plexus???

-Is responsible for sensory inn. of medial thigh skin(Not patellar Plexus, Obt. Nerve in general)

Location:

-Descends through fibers of Psoas, E. from med. border near brim of pelvis

-Enter thigh thru obtuator canal from upper rim of obt. foramen.

Femoral

B.F.: L2-4

M.S.: Iliopsoas, Pectineus, Sartorius, Quadriceps femoris

C.B.:

-Ant. Cutaneous Branches =

--Gives sensory info to central & mid thigh from near top of thigh to below knee

--Intermediate(middle) cutaneous nerve(ICN) & Medial cutaneous nerve(MCN)

(-3)ICN

(-4)Communicates w/ Medial C.N. & infrapatellar branch to form the patellar plexus

(-4)Supplies skin as low as the front of the knee

(-3)MCN

(-4)It's branches communicate with saphenous nerve.

-Saphenous Nerve

--Supplies skin on front and medial lower leg as low as the medial malleolus

--Gives off several branches

(-3)Infrapatellar branch(Front of knee)

(-3)Part of subsartorial plexus

(-4) below the Sartorius

Location:

-Runs in groove btwn Psoas & Iliacus, giving branches to those two

-Exits pelvis through med part of muscular lacuna

-Divides into it's many muscular/sensory branches & saphenous nerve once it enter the thigh

Direct Muscular Branches

Psoas Major(L1)

Quadratus Lumborum(Ventral Ramus of T12-L3)

Lumbar Interansversarii(T12-L4)

-Runs along entire spine adn is innervated by its adjacent nerve root(which includes branches from lumbar plexus
