20th April 1889

Hitler was born in Branau Am In, Austria

28th July 1914

World War 1 starts.

1st November 1918

Germany signs an armistice with the Allies.

28th June 1919

The Treaty of Versailles was created.

1923

The Great Depression started in America.

1933

Whilst struggling with the great depression, taking advantage of Germanys state. Hitler is appointed chancellor.

1934

President Hindenburg dies, leaving Hitler as Fuhrer ( supreme leader )

1936

Hitler overthrows the Treaty of Versailles and creates a powerful army navy and air force.

1938

Kristallnact ( the night of the broken glass ). Hitler starts evicting Jews and deports them to camps.

1939

Hitler invades Poland, completely unexpectedly. Starting world war 2.

2 September 1945

The war has ended as the Allies start closing in.

30th April 1945

Hitler commits suicide out of fear.

1949

Germany is divided.



The US, UK, France and British zones in the west become the Federal Republic of Germany



The Soviet Union zone.in the East becomes the German Democratic Government.



1961

The Berlin Wall was built

1989

The Berlin wall was demolished.

3 October 1990

Germany was reunited together again.

Aryan

Pure blood or purely German.

Reichstag

Parliament.

Communism

Property is public, and people are provided with work, money and healthcare.

Democracy

A government where common people have the power and ability to vote or with their elected representatives.

Concentration camps

Mostly used as a detention or labour centre.

Prejudice

A negative attitude based towards someone's race or ethnicity.

Stay of David.

A yellow star Jews were made to wear for identification.

Iron Curtain.

An imaginary border that divides Europe during the Cold War.

Cold war.

Political hostility. The Allies wanted to isolate the Soviet Union from spreading communism.

Hitler took leadership of the German workers party ( DAP ) and changed the name to National Socialist Workers Party. ( NAZI )

Mein Kampf

Means my struggle or my fight. Hitler write a book expressing his political ideas and budding Nazi plans.

Alois Hitler

This was Hitlers father. His wife Klara was Hitlers mum. Alois was a very strict man who put lots of pressure and expectations on young Hitler. He had a bad temper and was easily angered.

How did Hitler gain power?

Hitlers methods were very effective and with the aid of propaganda he was able to manipulate and control Germany to comply.

Swastika

The swastika that Hitler used was based in Indian religions and means good luck. The Nazis used it to represent German national pride.

Race Science

This was used when Hitler tried to create and maintain the perfect master race. This included people with blonde hair, blue eyes and a tall build. He specifically "bred" these people because he wanted a pure Aryan race, deemed highest in the racial hierarchy

Hitler Youth

This was founded in 1922 to train young boys into future soldiers for Hitlers army.

The Treaty of Versailles

This was a peace Treaty that brought WW1 to an end, signed on 28 June 1919.



The 4 main terms were the surrender of all German colonies, pay billions for reparations, accept the blame and take responsibility for their actions in the war and their militia was reduced.



This lead to the Great Depression in Germany leaving it financially unstable and in a crisis.

1942

The first camp was opened.

Extermination camps

These were used for the genocide of Jews and other non aryans as part of the Final Solution. Camps such as Auschwitz-Birkenau, Sobibor and Treblinka.
