An approriate check sheet is routed to the OOD/CDO requesting permissison.
What type of safety harness is used by personnel working over the side or aloft?
A parchute type safety harness with Dyna-Brake safety lanyard, working lanyard and tending line (as required) with double locking snap hooks.
What is the maximum lenght of the lanyard when working over the side or aloft?
Must not exceed six feet or the distance from the work to six feet above the deck, whichever is shorteter.
What conditions require work to stop for personnel working over the side or aloft?
When the ship begins to roll in excess of 10 degrees, or the ship begins to pitch in excess of six degrees, or wind speed is greater than 30 knots, and/or an ice storm/lighting threatens.
Where is permission requested to work aloft or over the side when underway or when working near stacks or exhausts that are actively disharging gasses?
From the commanding officer.
