Chief Warrant Officer program provides outstanding eligible active-duty personnel in the Regular Navy or Naval Reserve a direct path of advancement to chief warrant officer; must be command-recommended CPO with at least 12 years in service (not more than 24)

Limited Duty Officer program for path of advancement from PO1 through SCPOs & CWOs to commissioning as a temporary ensign or lieutenant JG in Regular Navy or Naval Reserve; must have been PO1 at least one full year by 1OCT to apply, can apply after 8 years (not more than 16) of active naval service
