Preliminary Graphics
Isometric or Orthographic sketches of components and assemblies used to inform 3D modelling activity or promotional graphics
Production Graphics
Typically Orthographic views of an assembly or components (with dimensions if component parts) that can be passed to engineers to manufacture the product
Promotional Graphics
DTP/Graphic Design work used to promote the product. Promotional Graphics use the DTP Elements and Principles and DTP commands

Third Angle Projection

Dominance
Design principle usually created using size and position on the layout.
Alignment
Usually referring to text. Can be either left-, right-, or centre-aligned
Line

Using the line tool to create lines to divide a layout. Could also use other elements to imply line.

Unity
Using elements on the page to 'break the grid' and tie all the elements on a page together
Depth
Using images in different positions to create visual depth. (e.g. using smaller images in the background and larger images in the foreground to create depth of field)

Contrast

When two objects with opposite properties are used together (e.g. white text on a black background, red and greed, yellow and blue etc)

Rhythm

Repeating elements in a layout to show unity and create comfort through the repitition
Heading
Usually the largest text in a publication.
Header
The top content of a document. This is typically the same throughout the document.
Flow Text
Making the text follow a curve or other path.
Bleed
An image that crosses the page boundaries on screen but gives the appearance of being cropped to fit the page in print.

Crop

When an image is removed from the background
Gradient Fill
Used to make one colour change into another. Can also be used to make opaque objects fade to transparency
Warm Colours
Red, Orange, Yellow
Cool Colours
Blue, Green, Purple
Copy
Creating a duplicate of an existing line/shape
Mirror

Scale
Import
Opening a file in a program (e.g. opening a PDF file in a PagePlus publication)
Export

Saving the document as another file format (DO NOT CONFUSE WITH SAVE AS) e.g. exporting a PagePlus file as a PDF

Extrude
Giving height to a 2D gemoetry
Revolve
Creating a solid form by revolving a 2D shape around an axis
Shell
Hollowing a solid 3D form
Fillet
Rounding over the eges to soften them
Chamfer
Applying an angle (usually 45o) to edges to soften them
CAD Assembly
A collection of component parts constrained to one another to show how an assembled product will look
Component Drawings
Separate drawing of the parts which comprise an assembly. Component drawings are usually dimensioned
Text Box
A rectangle with text inside it
Handles
The squares at the corners of an active/editable element in a publication
Margin
The space on either side of text columns at the edge of a page
Transparency
See-through'
Drop Shadow

An effect to add depth to a layout by placing a shadow underneath an element on a page

Outline
The outer line of an element. Can usually be made a different colour
Footer
The text that appears at the bottom of a page (typically used to show page numbers)
Grid
A virtual grid that can be applied to a publication to guide layout and scale
Grid Snap
A tool that allows the mouse to go between intersections on the grid.
Guidelines
A tool that can be applied over a grid to increase accuracy when snapping to objects and planning layouts.
Thumbnails

A type of preliminary sketch for promtional layouts. Usually annotated to show content and DTP principles

Paperless Office
An eco-friendly office that consumes no paper.
Benefits of using CAD to help environment

Remote working, Easy to make alterations to 3D models, communicating across international boundaries
