Acheron River

The River of woe in the Underworld

Invincible everywhere except his ankle. He died from wound to ankle.

Autonoe’s son. Great and famous hunter.

Athenian King. Kills himself when he thought his son died.

A Prince. Aphrodite’s son. Famous hero in Trojan War
Agamemnon
Led Greeks to war in Troy
Ajax
One of the two great champions after Achilles from the Trojan War. Goes on a mad rampage later, kills a bunch, and beat Odysseus savagely. After doing this, he regrets it and kills himself.
Andromache
Taken captive by the Greeks. She has to agree to let her son die by being thrown off the wall of Troy.
Andromeda

Bound on a rocky ledge, waiting for a sea monster to devour her. Saved by Perseus. Marries Perseus.

Aphrodite

Goddess of love and beauty. Said to have sprung from the foam of the sea. Everywhere she goes, beauty follows. However, she is represented as treacherous and malicious in some poems.

Apollo

The son of Zeus and Leto, born on the island of Delos. Been called most greek of all gods. A master musician who delights Olympus as he plays. The god of archery, the Healer. God of Light. God of Truth. Sometimes known as the direct link between gods and men. Also known as the purifier.
Arachne
Declared her work was better than Athena. Athena challenges her. After the contest, Arachne’s work is equal to, if not better than, Athena’s. Athena then tears Arachne’s work, and beats her. Arachne hangs herself. Athena feels regret, then turns her into a spider.

Ares

The god of war. Son of Zeus and Hera. Known as a mean and ruthless god to the Greeks. The Romans, however, see Mars as more of an idol in battle, as he is invincible and inspiring.

Argonauts
Group of young men from Greece on the quest for the Golden Fleece. They rode in a ship called the Argo, hence the name

Ariadne
Helped Theseus escape the Labyrinth. Promised to help him if he married her afterword.

Artemis

Apollo’s twin sister, daughter of Zeus and Leto. The Lady of Wild Things, Huntsman-in-chief to the gods. In many stories she was fierce and revengeful.

Atalanta
A hunter, abandoned by her father, raised by a bear then by hunters, and eventually turned into a lioness.
Atlas
Condemned to hold up the sky forever.
Aurora
Goddess of the Dawn
Bellerophon
Owned Pegasus, a flying horse. Went on many quests (was supposed to die from them). Tries to ride up to Olympus, but Pegasus throws him off. Bellerophon had to live out the rest of his days alone, being hated by the gods.
Callisto
Daughter of Lycaon, turned into a bear because Hera got mad when Zeus fell in love with her. Instead of being killed, she is placed in the stars and known as the Great Bear.
Calypso
A nymph stuck on an island

A prophetess. No one ever believed her.

Half man, half horse creatures.Known for being beasts.

Shut up by her father in an underground bronze house. She has a son with Zeus, and when her father finds out, she is cast into the sea on a boat. Her and her son (Perseus) then discover a fisherman. The fisherman takes care of them.
Delphi
City that held the priestess. Whatever the priestess said came true.

The goddess of the corn.

Dionysus
The god of wine.
Echo
Fairest of nymphs. Loved Narcissus, but he never loved her. She lived in a cave. Thus, when in caves, she echoes whatever you say.
Elysian Fields
Place of blessedness in Underworld. Only those who were true heroes and good at heart went here when they died.

Eros

God of Love. Sometimes portrayed as nefarious at heart, but sweet in his tongue.

Eurydice
In the Underworld, she was given to Orpheus, if Orpheus didn’t look back. He did, and she disappeared.
Furies
Ministers of justice. Born from Titan Cronus’s blood.
Golden Fleece
The Fleece sought after by the Argonauts.
Gorgons
Three dragon like creatures with wings that turned man to stone. Two of these were immortal

A beautiful girl who surpassed human and looked like a goddess. Name means Soul. Eventually was with Cupid, showing Love and Soul will always be together
Pygmalion
A young gifted sculptor who hated women. Made a statue of a woman, loved it, asked Venus to give him a maiden like her, statue turns into a real person.
Pyramus
Pyramus dies, Thisbe kills herself. The fruit of the mulberry is the memorial for the two.
Scylla
Would not love Glaucus. Circe turns her into a monster.
Sirens
Lived on an island, with enchanting voices that would pull sailors in until they crashed and died
Sisyphus
Betrayed Zeus, condemned to forever try to roll a stone up a hill in Hades
Sphinx
Creature shaped like a lion, has face of woman. Asks riddles.

The river of the unbreakable oath by which the gods swear. Called hateful.
