Rhythm

the organization of sounds in time or movement of the beat/ having "strong or weak pulses".

Meter

the type of grouping or patterned of beats.

Polyrhythmic

"Poly" means many, thus, (literally) "many rhythms". (several rhythms occurring at the same time).

Accent

specific points in the music that are in some way emphasized or stressed.

Syncopation

an accent in the music failing.

Tempo

speed of rate with which beats pass. (fast and slow).

Pitch

highness or lowness of the sound or tone or high and low pitches.

Intervals

distance or spacing between any two notes or pitches.

Melody

progression of single tones or pitches that make the tune.

Scale/Mode

a group of pitches (all) going in one direction, in ascending or descending order.

Drone

unchanging or sustained tone or note sounding continuously in the music and often in contrast to the melody.

Articulation

the way a note or sound is begun or finished.

Harmony

the combination in which different pitches or tones sounding simultaneously and how they relate to one another.

Ostinato

repeated musical pattern usually under or separate from the melody.

Tonality

organization of pitches in the music around a central note "tonic" pitch or "home" pitch.

Key

the name given to a scale or piece starting on or focusing on a specific pitch.

Timbre

the quality or "color" of the tone; the characteristics of the sound (depth of sound) from the voice or instrument.
