D1 & D5
What muscle can be seen on the dorsal side of the plan between D1 & D2?
The D1 half of the bipenate proximal attachment of the Dorsal Interossei for D2.
Describe the Construction of the Dorsal Digital Expansion

Extensor Digitorum
Interosseous
Lumbrical
The tendon from Extensor Digitorum is in the middle of the phalanx inserting on the surface of the PP and make the "Hood".

The Interosseous are lateral to the phalanx and insert on the dorsal base of the PP.Typically on lateral side unless D3 then both sides. The Interossei is ventral to MCP JT and allows it to Flex the joint.

The Lumbrical is lateral to the Dorsal Interosseus and has no bony attachment. Only attaches to the DDE and contributes to the Central Band and Lateral Band. The lumbrical is ventrally to the MCP Jt and allow it to Flex the joint.
Describe the Construction of the Dorsal Digital Expansion

Central Band
Lateral Band
Central Band is proximal and medial. Attaches to the Middle Phalanx. It is at the Base of the Traingular Membrane. Central band is dorsal to the PIP, which explains how it can extend at IP

Lateral Band attach to the DP and are the sides of the Triangular Membrane. The Lateral Band is Dorsal to the PIP, which allows it to extend the IP.
Describe the Construction of the Dorsal Digital Expansion

Triangel Membrane
Oblique Ligament
Triangle Membrane is attached to the Lateral Bands and tether them dorsally. This prevents the lateral bands from moving ventrally.

Oblique Ligament extends from lateral bands and extends dorsally and crosses the PIP. It then attaches ventrally to PP. This tethers the lateral bands ventrally.
Dorsal Digital Expansion Pathology

Triangle Membrane or Oblique Ligament
Lesions to either the Triangle Membrane or the Oblique Ligament allow the Lateral Bands to move dorsally.

Triangle Ligament or Central Band- Boutonnieres Deformity - injury to either can allow the PIP to be placed into permanent flexion by the FDP.

Oblique Ligament Or Later Band - Hyperextension of PIP (Swan neck Deformity)
What is the Action of Transverse Metacarpal Ligament ?
Works tim the Palmar Ligament to stabilize the Flexor Tendons across the MCP Joint.

It runs on the heads of the D2-D5 MC.
What is the action of the Palmar Ligament (Plate)?
Works with Deep Transverse Ligament to stabilize the Flexor Tendons across the MCP Joint.
