Melody

away from contrapuntal complexity; audiences prefer music w melody in short phrases over spare accompaniment (galant style); "free" ideas of Enlightenment; CPE Bach's Sonata in A Major is in galant style

Rhythm

lack of contrapuntal complexities allows for freer rhythms; more focus on song-like melodies of galant style

Form

periodicity (frequent resting points in melody) came to be used in galant style, and several new genres developed, such as Sonata form (again, Sonata in A Major by CPE Bach)

harmony

homophony from galant style, simple harmonies (light acc), alberti bass, harmonic changes happen less often; for instance, Sammartini's Symphony in F Major uses alberti bass in the viola

instrumentation

new winds invented (clarinet), symphony instrumentation and size expanded, and an emphasis was placed on instrumental music in this time (opera developed, of course, but sonatas were being developed, the symphony & string quartet was being defined)
