When was classical period?
1750 - 1825
Key features of Classical music..
Balanced phrases with questions and answers. Use of crescendos and diminuendos often homophonic and introduction of piano instead of harpsichord.

Structure and tonality?
Sonata form, in G minor.
Melody?
Balanced, 4 and 8 bar phrases. Question and answers with many scalic phrases.
Harmony?
Diatonic, includes chromatic chords (diminished 7th and augmented 6th) and pedal notes.
Rhythm?
4/4, Molto Allegro. Repition of short rhythmic ideas. Simple rhythms with some dotted rhythms and syncopation.
Texture?
Homphonic, uses counterpoint and doubled octaves.
Dynamics?
Exposition - first subject is quiet, transition is loud, second subject is quiet then gets louder.
Development - loud section in middle but begins and ends quietly.
Recapitulation - similat to exposition.
Most dynamics sudden.
Instrumentation?
Chamber orchestra, use of strings woodwind and horns. No timp or trumpets. Horns in different keys (G and Bb)
