Eruption
The process by which solid, liquid, and gaseous materials are ejected into the earth's atmosphere and onto the earth's surface by volcanic activity.
Cinder Cone Volcano
Large lumps of lava ash blast through a crater at the top of the volcano, the lava quickly builds a huge cone.
Dome
A steep-sided mass of viscous (doughy) lava extruded from a volcanic vent which has a rounded, or flat on top.
Mantle
The zone of the earth below the crust and above the core.
Pipe
A vertical conduit through the Earth's crust below a volcano, through which magmatic materials have passed.
Composite Volcano
Are formed with alternating layers of lava and rock fragments and usually erupt in an explosive way.
Shield Volcano
Form wide, sloping mountains and they have thin, runny lava that spreads across the ground. The lava oozes out of cracks rather than explodes.
