What is the difference between OLD KINGDOM and NEW KINGDOM dress?

OLD KINGDOM: A piece of woven material used as a long cloth secured by a belt. Kings dignitaries pleated and stiffened, embroideries.


NEW KINGDOM: Pharohs wore a long fringed tunic called KALASIRIS, semitransparent, allows to ser loin cloth. Women would wear, tight under breasts and secured by shoulder straps, used w/ short cape or wide jeweled collar, chest exposed.

What is the SCHENTI and KALASIRIS? Who would wear it?

Both worn by Egyptians. SCHENTI was a loincloth. KAKASIRIS was a linen gown.

Linen was used exclusively as a textile with the Egyptians, because it was all they were able to grow in the area.

Young princess shaved thier heads. Older princess wore hair, some frizzed of waved. Pharaohs used crowns. Warriors used helmets.

Chiton: a form of tunic that fastens at the shoulder, worn by men and women of Ancient Greece.


Chlamys: Short cloak fastened over chiton on one shoulder; also worn with nothing underneath.


Himation: Larger cloak worn in cold weather could be 8x6 feet wide.
