Sumer

Sumerians settled down near the banks of the Euphrates and Tigris Rivers around 3500 BC



Lived in Independence City states that were ruled by their own King



Sumerians were the first to develop the wheel and a form of writing, cuneiform writing. The Epic of Gilgamesh is the oldest known piece of literature.

Babylonia

The Babylonian period began in 1900 BCE and began because semantic nomads wanted to make a city to settle down in. The formation of Babylon also followed the decline of Sumer

Assyria

The Assyrians were able to dominate through wearing down enemies due to long successions of war.



Created large and skilled armies and made weapons forged of iron.

Chaldea

Chaldea formed after the collapse of the Assyrian Empire. After 200 years the city was conquered by Cyrus of Persia

Cuneiform Writing

First known form of writing and was developed by the Sumerians. Made significant advances in scientific knowledge and produced the first written literature.

King Nebuchadnezzar

King Nebuchadnezzar transformed Babylon nto one of the most beautiful cities in the world. He was noted in the Bible as a warrior king. He conquered Judah, captured and destroyed Jerusalem, and took many Jews back to Babylonian at prisoners.. He only stopped his conquest of Egypt when he had about his father's death.
