Hoover's Test
With the patient supine, the examiner raises the heels and asks the patient to lift the affected leg. Downward pressure should be felt on the unaffected side as the patient attempts to lift the symptomatic leg

(+) Absence of downward pressure on the unaffected side

Indication: malingering
Plantar Flexion Test
Dr. performs a SLR to the point of pain, lowers it, then plantar flexes the foot. This should NOT exacerbate pain secondary to nerve/root traction

(+) Complaint of exacerbation of sciatic pain

Indication: malingering
Axial Loading Test
With the patient standing, the examiner applies approximately 2lbs of axial pressure to the top of the head

(+) Report of exacerbation of low back or leg pain

Indication: malingering
(Petryn) Flip Test
In a patient with complaints of sciatic nature, perform passive knee extension on the affected leg without prior warning to the patient (This is best performed incidental to the other examination procedures)

(+) No exacerbation of leg pain

Indication: malingering
Magnuson's Test
The patient is questioned regarding the site of pain. Then other examination procedures are introduced by way of distraction. The patient is requested to point to the area of pain again

(+) Inconsistency in localizing the same site of pain
