ROM Hip Flexion Position? |
On back (Supine) Have them bring knee to chest. Stationary arm parallel to trunk Movable arm parallel to lateral part of her femur Axis goes on greater trochanter |
Hip Flexion MMT Position? |
Against Gravity Sitting upright on table, feet planted on floor. Have them bring knee up to chest. Stabilizing arm on upper thigh of same leg being tested. Resistance given right above knee. Gravity Eliminated Sideline (laying on side with bottom leg relaxed so knee slightly bent) Flex the knee on the leg being tested and ask them to bring knee to the chest. |
ROM Hip Extension Position? |
Client in prone (on stomach) Axis on greater trochanter Movable arm parallel to proximal femur Stationary arm parallel to trunk Have them keep knee extended and instruct them to bring leg up towards the sky. |
MMT Hip Extension? |
Against gravity Client in Prone (on stomach) With knee extended ask them to bring leg up to sky. Place stabilizing hand above gluteus Maximus and apply pressure above knee again. Gravity Eliminated Sideline They can flex both knees slightly now. Stabilizing hand on Hip and can stabilize back of calf Give resistance on back of leg above knee. |
ROM Hip Abduction? |
Patient in supine (on back) Axis on ASIS ( hip bone) stationary arm aligned across lower abdomen Look at outer red numbers on these. Movable arm laying on top of femur so goniometer looks like a 90 degree angle. Ask patient to bring leg out to side away from other leg while keeping knee extended |
MMT Hip Abduction? |
Against Gravity Patient in sideline. Bottom leg can be slightly bent (flexed) Ask patient to keep top leg straight and bring up to ceiling. Stabilizing hand on patient’s hip. Gravity Eliminated Patient in supine (on back) Can cradle ankle above mat if need to help them with that little bit of gravity when they abduct. Make sure they keep trunk flat against table. |
ROM Hip Adduction? |
Patient on edge of table, drop leg not being measured off the side. Stationary arm on ASIS (across hip bones just like in Hip Abduction.) Movable arm on leg being aligned with femur of leg being tested. Have patient move leg to close, towards the leg hanging off the table. |
MMT Hip Adduction?
Against Gravity Patient in sideline, with leg being tested on bottom. Bring top leg away from other leg. Ask patient to bring bottom leg up to meet the top leg. Add resistance to inner thigh above knee. Gravity Eliminated Patient on back (supine) Apply resistance on lower thigh in same way. Have other leg draped over table side as done in abduction. |
ROM Hip Internal Rotation?
Patient seated Stationary arm perpendicular to floor Movable arm parallel with tibia Axis at midpoint of patella Can you bring your knee inward to touch your other knee? |
ROM Hip External Rotation?
Patient seated Stationary arm perpendicular to floor Movable arm parallel with tibia Axis at midpoint of patella Instruct patient to move knee away from body towards you (as you are seated on floor to that side of them) foot of that leg will go up towards midpoint of calf on opposite leg. |
MMT Hip External Rotation?
Against Gravity Patient seated upright. Ask them to move knee away from body towards you (as you are seated on floor to that side of them) Move them to half way, and apply pressure to inner calf going outward. Gravity Eliminated Patient on back (supine) Flex hip to 90 degrees passively Flex knee to 90 degrees passively Ask them to bring knee towards you Apply pressure in same way. |
MMT Hip Internal Rotation?
Against Gravity Patient seated upright. Ask them to move knee inwards to meet their other knee. Move them to halfway, and apply pressure on outside of mid calf. Stabilizing hand on top of lower thigh. Gravity Eliminated Patient on back (supine) Flex hip to 90 degrees passively Flex knee to 90 degrees passively Ask them to bring knee inward towards their core. Apply pressure to outer calf in same way. |
ROM Knee extension to flexion?
Stationary arm parallel to femur Axis on lateral epicondyle of femur movable arm parallel to fibula. Patient on back (supine) Ask them to knee up so trunk and thigh make a 90 degree angle. And ask them to bring their lower leg to get their foot as close to their butt as possible. |
MMT Knee Flexion?
Against Gravity Patient on stomach (prone) Ask them to bring heel of foot up to bottom. Move them halfway. Apply pressure on back of calf. stabilizing hand on hamstring. Gravity Eliminated Patient in sideline Leg being tested on top. Have them bring heel of foot up to bottom. Apply pressure on back of calf. |
MMT Knee Extension?
Against Gravity Patient seated upright. Ask them to bring foot upwards. Put them halfway. Stabilizing hand above knee on upper thigh. Apply pressure on shin. Gravity Eliminated Patient in sideline Leg being tested on top. Have knee flexed to 90 degrees passively. Ask patient to straighten out their leg. Bring her halfway. Apply pressure on shin. Stabilizing hand can be on their hip. |
ROM Dorsiflexion?
Patient on back (supine) Foot off end of table and bent so makes 90 degree angle. Use middle sized goniometer. Stationary arm parallel to fibula. Axis on Lateral malleolus Movable arm parallel to sole of heel. Ask patient to point toes towards their head. |
MMT Dorsiflexion?
Against Gravity Patient seated upright. Ask them to point foot upwards. Move to mid range. Stabilizing hand on shin. Apply pressure to top of foot. Gravity Eliminated Patient in sideline. Therapist hold leg at calf off the table slightly for support. Ask them to point toes upward. Move to midrange Apply pressure to top of foot. |
Plantar Flexion ROM?
Patient on back (supine) Feet off end of table. Ask them to point toes downward. Stationary arm parallel to fibula. Axis on lateral malleolus. Movable arm parallel to sole of foot. |
MMT Plantar Flexion?
Against Gravity: Patient on stomach (prone) Feet hanging off end of table. Ask them to bring toes upwards. Apply pressure to sole of foot. Gravity Eliminated: Patient in sideline bling toes backward. Apply pressure to sole of foot. |
MMT Ankle Inversion?
Against Gravity: Patient in sideline Leg being tested on bottom. Have them bring toes "up and back" Move midrange Place pressure on inner foot. Gravity Eliminated: Patient on back. Ask them to move foot inward. Move midrange Apply pressure on inner foot. |
MMT Ankle Eversion?
Against Gravity: Patient in sidelineLeg being tested on top. Have them bring pinky toe up and out. Move midrange Place pressure on outer edge of foot. Gravity Eliminated: Patient on back. Ask them to move pinky toe up and out. Move midrange Apply pressure on outer edge of foot.
