Plot

Also called storyline. The plan, scheme, or main story of a literary or dramatic work, as a play, novel, or short story.

Conflict

a fight, battle, or struggle, especially a prolonged struggle; strife.

Characterization.

portrayal; description: the actor's characterization of a politician.

Point of View.

the position of the narrator in relation to the story, as indicated by the narrator's outlook from which the events are depicted and by the attitude toward the characters.

Inner Conflict.

a character’s internal struggle (conscience)

Outer conflict.

physical struggle, fight, argument

1st Person Point of View

I, me, why, etc.

2nd Person Point of View

you, your.

3rd Person.

he, she, it, they, them, etc.

3rd Omniscient

the “All Knowing” narrator – seeing inside characters’ minds.

Irony.

the use of words to convey a meaning that is the opposite of its literal meaning: the irony of her reply, “How nice!” when I said I had to work all weekend.

Symbolism.

the practice of representing things by symbols, or of investing things with a symbolic meaning or character.
