Setting

This is where and when a story takes place. It can be very specific or general.

They are the people, animals, or things in the story that move the plot along.

Rising Action
|
These are the events in the story that lead up to the climax.

Irony
|
This is when an unexpected event occurs in the story.

Flashback
|
This is when the author intentionally interrupts the story to introduce an event that happened earlier in the story.

Foreshadowing
|
The author provides hints or clues to the reader about events that are about to happen in the story.

Moral
|
This is the lesson the author wants you to learn.
|

Tone
|
This is very similar to the type of voice one uses when speaking to someone.

Exposition (Introduction)
|
The beginning of the story when the conflict and characters are introduced with the setting.

Plot
|
This is the plan or events in the story (the actual story line).
|

Theme
|
This is the general life issue ( central idea) that the author whishes to express, or broad idea of a story.

Mood
|
This is the feeling created by the author's use of words and setting.
|

Solution/ Resolution
|
This is how the main problem is fixed or solved.
|

Conflict/ Problem
|
This is the situation the characters find themselves in that they must fix. Internal conflict- person vs self. External conflict- person vs person, person vs society, person vs environment/ forces of nature, person vs machine.

|
Antagonist
|
The character that usually causes trouble or wreaks havoc in the story (sometimes the bad guy).
|
|
Protagonist
|
The main character - usually the hero of the story. |
|
Climax
|
The point where things come to a head and change. This is usually towards the end of the story when the details come together.
|
|
Falling Action
|
This comes after the climax and ends the story.
