When did Australia become a federation with its own constitution?

What is the Australian parliamentry system based on and what aspects does it consist of?
The Westminster system, is composed of three main features they are;
-Bicameral structure: the parliament consists of 2 houses the upper and the lower (2= bi) however the parliament is headed by the Govenor-General
-Seperation of powers: there are three branches of government, legislature (the parliament), the executive (buisness of government) and the judiciary (courts) all three branched must remain seperate to ensure that there is no misuse of power 'seperation of powers'
-Representitve and Responsiable government: the government must be held responsible to the people of Australia and must represent the views of the majority
What does Australia's parliamentry system consist of?
Australia's parliamentry system comsisits of the Crown, The House of Representitives and the Senate
What is the Role of the Crown (Governor-General) within the parliamentry system?
The role of the crown is to
-Give royal assent to legislation, making the bill a law
-prorgue the parliament(discontinue sessions of parliament until the next session)
-Disolve parliament and call an election
-The Govenor-General retains the right to accept or refuse laws made by both houses, however, it is a convention that the Govenor-General will always accept those laws made by our parliament
What does a Bicameral system of parliames comprise of?
A bicameral system of parliament is composed of an upper(senate)and lower house (house of repersentatives)parliament consists of members from all parties, while the government is formed by the party with a majority of members in the lower house
How many members are in the lower house (house of represeentatives)?
The House of Representitatives has 150 members that are elected for three years,
each represents an electrol division of Australia comprised of around 81,000 people,
each state has at least 5 elected representatives
Who forms the government?
The political party or coalition of parties that has the majority of seats in the House of representatives during a federal election becomes the government
How is the Prime minister selected?
The governments leader or the leader of the dominate pary becomes the prime minsiter
Who selects minsiters? and what do they do?
Ministers are selected by the prime minister and can come from their party or a colition party,
ministers can either be members of the House of Representatives or the Senate,
a minister ussualy looks after one government department
What is the cabinet? and what do they do?
A cabinet is comprised of a group of senior ministers,
they meet with the prime minister to make key discissions of government
What is the House of representatives? and what is its role within parliament?
The House of representatives is the lower house of the commonwealth parliament and is designed to represent the intrests of the majority.
What is the Senate? what is its role within parliament
The Senate is the upper house of commonwealth parliament,
acts as a house of review,
according to the constitution it is also designed to represent the intrests of the states
How is the oppision party formed?
The party or coalition winning the second highest number of seats in the House of Representatives forms the opposition party.
The leader of the pary or coalition becomes the leader of the oppisiton, they then select a shadow minister to match each government minister to form a shadow cabinet
What is the main role of the House of representatives
The main role of this house it to introduce legislation into the parliament and then to discuss, amend and vote on bill, as the government has the majority of member in the House of representatives it always ensures that bills will procede to the upper house (senate)

The senate has 76 senators in toatal, 12 senators representing each state and two representing each territory.
state senators serve for 6 years and territory senators serve for 3 years
