Epidermis

The epidermis is the outermost layer of the skin, the epidermis also has 5 layers to it. The epidermis is also known as “scarf skin” or “cutis”. It is also apposed of epithelial tissue that covers & protects our bodies.


The 5 main layers of the epidermis are:


1) Stratum corneum


2) Stratum lucidum


3) Stratum granulosum


4) Stratum spinosum


5) Stratum germinativum

Dermis

Known as “true skin” cutis or corinum, the dermis is the 2nd main layer of the skin & has connective tissues & elastin & collegen. There are 2 layers of the dermis:


1) Papillary, is the first layer of the dermis & is in line with the papilla.


2) Reticular, is the second layer of the dermis.

Subcutaneous

The third main layer of the skin also known as the “fatty layer” or “adipose layer”
