Given a DNA strand, you have to write the correct bases for the complementary mRNA and label the 3' and 5' ends.

U goes with A, A goes with T, C and G go together. Top strand goes 5' to 3' and bottom is 3' to 5'

Know what happens when you reach a stop codon during translation and be able to describe it

It stops the production of a protein, by telling the ribosomes executing the mRNA code that it's time to stop

If you want to amplify DNA what technique would you use?

Polymerase Chain Reaction or PCR , is a method of amplifying DNA. The target DNA is replicated many times to obtain a large amount of the DNA that lies between the two primer regions.

Where does transcription take place? Translation?

Transcription occurs in the nucleus, and translation occurs in the cytoplasm

Know how electrophoresis works and how the fragments of DNA separate

A solution of DNA molecules is placed in a gel. Because each DNA molecule is negatively charged, it can be pulled through the gel by an electric field. Small DNA molecules move more quickly through the gel than larger DNA molecules. The result is a series of 'bands', with each band containing DNA molecules of a particular size. The bands furthest from the start of the gel contain the smallest fragments of DNA. The bands closest to the start of the gel contain the largest DNA fragments

If given sizes of 3 DNA strands be able to pick out the correct electrophoresis gel based on charge and size

How big the strands are, the smallest goes the farthest.
