So you don't cross contaminate

Pure culture definition

Mixed culture definition

Contains more than one species

Define bacterial colony. List four characteristics they can be distinguished

A cluster of a bacteria on the surface of an agar plate. Form, elevation, margin and color

Why does the streaking method you used to inoculate your plates result in isolated colonies?

Because we sterilize the loop each time we streak it therefore the cells spread out and form a single colony

Why was a blood agar rather than a nutrient agar plate used for the culture from your mouth?

The bacteria growing in or on a host have access to nutrient so blood agar is used.

Are the large numbers of microorganism found in the mouth cause for concern?

No because the normal flora in the mouth keeps the harmful bacteria from attaching to the mucosa
