Dementia and Delirium All patients suspected of suffering from dementia should undergo testing for potentially reversible forms of cognitive impairment.2. Patients with dementia commonly develop super-imposed delirium during hospitalization.3. Delirium is common, costly, and morbid.4. The risk of developing delirium can be lowered by identying high-risk patients early in the course of their hospitalization and implementing nonpharmacologic delirium prevention treatments.5.
