Master Robert Trias opened the very first Karate school on mainland America in 1946. He started the United States Karate Association (over 300,000 members world wide.) He combined Shorei and Goju katas in 1948 and taught a number of men this hybrid system. Some of those men moved to Chicago and started schools there, which is how Mr. Ken Knudson originally picked up the system. Master Trias trained at his school in Phoenix, Arizona until his death in the summer of 1989.
