Periodized Training
a phrase which refers to how ones training I broken down in discreet time periods called macrocycles, mesocycles, microcycles
Macrocycles
a term used in conjunction with periodization-long training period usually between six months to a year
Mesocycles
a term used in conjunction with periodization, may represent anywhere from 2 weeks to a few months, typically a month

micro cycles
a term used in conjunction with periodization generally referred to as 7 days or a week in length
Overtraining
excessive training principally of the eccentric contraction phase of lifting weights or running that can cause injury, loss of body weight, insomnia, depression, chronic muscle soreness
Overreaching
an accumulation of training and or non training stress resulting in short term decrement in performance capacity
Stressors
external stimulus or a events that cause stress to an organism
Sympathetic overtraining
overtraining in which the sympathetic part of the nervous system becomes overative which results in the classic sign of an increased resting heart rate
Parasympathetic overtaining
a serious end stage of overtraining associated with the exhaustion of neurological and hormonal factors, typically with serious physical, chemical, or mental injuries
Excessive Training
a point where an individual may see a decrease in performance and plateauing as a result from failure to consistently perform at a certain level or training load exceeds their recovery capacity
Catabolism
the breaking down aspect of metabolism including all processes oin which complex substances are progressively broken down into simpler ones
Anabolism
the building up in the body of complex chemical compounds from simpler compounds
DOMS
pain and stiffness experienced in muscles several hours or days after exercise
Post Exercise Muscle Soreness PEMS
the sensation of discomfort or pain in the skeletal muscles following physical activity
Cumulative Microtrauma
repetitive motion injury, Any group of conditions characterized by repeated stress on muscles, bones, tendons, and nerves which have physical and physiological ramifications.
Peripheral Heart Action Training PHAT
a form of resistance training performed in a circuit fashion
Contrast Showers

a series of exercise designed to improve general health, alleviate acute and chronic pain, improve posture and enhance athletic ability
Limit Strength
Absolute strength enhanced by hypnosis, electrotherapy, ergogenic substances of any form (including nutritional supplements or drugs) or other techniques. Such aids increase the potential for strength above normal capacity.
Active Rest
defined as very light exercise often involving stretching which does not result in damage to the muscles
