Indirect speech

Indirect speech is a means of expressing the content of statements, questions or other utterances, without quoting them explicitly as is done in direct speech. For example, He said "I'm coming" is direct speech, whereas He said (that) he was coming is indirect speech.

Direct speech

the reporting of speech by repeating the actual words of a speaker, for example “I'm going,” she said.

Active voice

Active voice. In most English sentences with an action verb, the subject performs the action denoted by the verb. These examples show that the subject is doing the verb's action.

Passive voice

The passive voice is a grammatical "voice". The noun or noun phrase that would be the object of a corresponding active sentence (such as "Our troops defeated the enemy") appears as the subject of a sentence or clause in thepassive voice ("The enemy was defeated by our troops"). Or the subject of the sentence is the reciever of the action.

Simple past tense

The simple past, past simple or pastindefinite, sometimes called the preterite, is the basic form of the past tense in Modern English. It is used principally to describe events in thepast, although it also has some other uses.

Regular verb: base form of the verb + ed/d

Simple present tense

We use the simple present tense when an action is happening right now, or when it happens regularly (or unceasingly, which is why it's sometimes called present indefinite). Depending on the person, the simple present tense is formed by using the root form or by adding ‑s or ‑es to the end.

Form: base form of the verb es/s

Simple future tense

The simple future refers to a time later than now, and expresses facts or certainty. In this case there is no 'attitude'. The simple future is used: To predict a future event: It will rain tomorrow.

Form: will/shall+ base form of the verb

Past perfect tense

The PAST PERFECT TENSE indicates that an action was completed (finished or "perfected") at some point in thepast before something else happened. This tense is formed with the past tense form of "to have" (HAD) plus thepast participle of the verb (which can be either regular or irregular in form):

Form: had + past participle of the verb

Present perfect tense

The present perfect of any verb is composed of two elements : the appropriate form of the auxiliary verb to have (present tense), plus the past participle of the main verb. The past participle of a regular verb is base+ed, e.g. played, arrived, looked.

Form: has/have + past participle of the verb

Just+ past participle of the verb

Future perfect tense

The FUTURE PERFECT TENSEindicates that an action will have been completed (finished or "perfected") at some point in the future. This tense is formed with "will" plus "have" plus the past participle of the verb (which can be either regular or irregular in form): "I will have spent all my money by this time next year.
