What is diffusion? |
Diffusion is the travelling of molecules across the concentration gradient from areas of high concentration to areas of low concentration. |
|
What is a selectively permeable membrane? |
A selectively permeable membrane is a membrane that allows only some things through. |
|
Can bound water molecules cross the selectively permeable membrane |
No, only un-bound membranes. |
|
What is the fourth stage of mitosis? What happens? |
Anaphase- the spindle fibres pull the chromosomes apart two opposite sides of the two new cells (polar sides) |
|
When water flows into the cell through the process of osmosis, what solution is it in? Why? |
A hypotonic solution- Water will flow into the cell as there is a higher concentration of solute on the inside of the cell then in the surroundings. Hypo means LESS. |
|
What is osmosis? |
The movement of water across a semi-permeable membrane from an area of low concentration of solute to an area of high concentration of solute. |
