* Think about and picture the person you’re writing to or someone similar to that person. Try to imagine how you would talk to that person in an ordinary, face-to-face conversation. Then, in your writing, use language similar to that imaginary conversation.
* Use words that are at the vocabulary level of your reader.
* Try to use a conversational tone in your writing.
* Strive for positive, rather than negative, language.
* Whenever possible, make your approach personal and direct, emphasizing any benefits to the audience.

In the written word, voice refers to the way your material “sounds” to its readers.



Note: Choosing the right voice for anything you write is closely related to knowing your audience.
