The inner edge of a heat sealed peel pack is NOT sterile once opened.

A STERILE BARRIER THAT HAS BEEN PERMEATED MUST BE CONSIDERED UN-STERILE/CONTAMINATED.

GOWNS OF THE SURGICAL TEAM ARE CONSIDERED STERILE IN FRONT, FROM THE CHEST TO THE LEVEL OF THE STERILE FIELD. Basically where you can see, "NIPS TO NAVEL". SLEEVES ARE CONSIDERED STERILE FROM THE PROXIMAL EDGE OF THE STOCKINETTE CUFF to 2" ABOVE THE ELBOW.

Back of sterile gown is considered un-sterile after donned.
Avoid changing table levels when possible. |

MOVEMENT IN OR AROUND THE STERILE FIELD MUST BE SUCH AS NOT TO CAUSE CONTAMINATION OF THAT STERILE FIELD.

Sterile team faces each other and the sterile field.
Sterile team passes each other, back-to-back or front-to-front. Un-sterile persons in the room must always face sterile field. |

ITEMS OF DOUBTFUL STERILITY ARE UN-STERILE; "WHEN IN DOUBT, THROW IT OUT"

Sterile field should NEVER be left unattended because you cannot guarantee that the field was not contaminated.
