What do vet techs primarily function as?

What are they eqivalent to in human medicine?
- Professional technical support to veterinarians
- Equivalent to a nurse but can perform a larger number of tasks/skills than a nurse in human medicine would do
What tasks are veterinary assistants responsible for?

What are the three types of supervision and how do they differ?
1) IMMEDIATE supervision: vet must be within direct eyesight and hearing range (ex. anesthesia, suturing, etc.)
2) DIRECT supervision: vet is on premises and readily available (ex. euthanasia, blood collection, etc.)
3) INDIRECT supervision: vet not on premises but able to perform duties by maintaining communication (ex. catheters, radiography, etc.)
What happens if a hospital misrepresents pseudo techs as veterinary tecnicians?
NOTHING.
Though the AVMA has a policy that only graduates of AVMA accredited programs may be referred to as Vet Techs, there is no way to enforce it.
