Describe the Contact Process, which produces Sulfur (mention the necessary conditions)
Sulfur must first burn in air to produce Sulfur Dioxide. The sulfur dioxide is then mixed with more air and is passed over four separate beds of catalyst (vanadium (V) oxide) at 450°C to produce sulfur trioxide. This is the dissolved in sulphuric acid to give oleum, which is mixed with water t give concentrated sulphuric acid. The conditions necessary are high pressure and low temperature

What are some typical features of sulfuric acid?
- thick oily liquid
- Dehydrating agent - contains hydrogen ions which give it its acidity - has a pH of less than 7 |
