REQUIREMENTS TO HOLD AN AVIATION DOCUMENT
Eg; pilots, flight crew, atc , engineers, air services ,aerodromes and aerodrome operators - essentially any operators around aircraft
duties of pilot in command
responsible for the safe operation of a/c in flight and the safety and well being of pax-crew-cargo.
have the final authority to control the a/c and maintain dicipline of all persons on board.
responsible for compliance of rules and regulations .
when is deviation from rules and regulations permitted
when dealing with a in flight emergency , that involves danger to life or property , and the extent of such breach goes only as far as necessary.
a emergency that does not arise in flight may breach the rules also , but with the same limitations and the risk of the flight being conducted is less than the risk caused by not conducting the flight.
what are the eligibility requirements for IFR
must hold a pilot licence , minimum licence being ppl (note a ppl pilots be cleared for class 1 hearing)
night flying privileges for licence and a/c appropriate.
ground course completed under a approved organization under 141.pass theory exams. appropriate medical requirements.
appropriate flight time experience consisting of ;
50hrs VFR cross country PIC , 10 of which must be in the appropriate a/c category.
40 hrs instrument time- 10hrs dual cross country under ifr flight plane-10hrs dual instruction-not more than 20hrs instrument flight time in synthetic trainer.
Pass flight test.
an instrument rating entitles the holder to
an instrument rating authorizes the holder to act as pic or co-pilot of an a/c under ifr subject to the following;
for ifr ops in a multi engine a/c (excluding centerline thrust a/c) the appropriate flight test shall have been carried out in a non center line a.c

if carrying out an instrument appch procedure under ifr a competency certificate for that appch aid type must be signed in the pilots logbook
to exercise the privileges of the ifr rating the pilots must
demonstrate competency to a flight examiner every 12 months.
within the preceding 3 months:
either proved competency to a flight examiner in a flight test or; completed at least 3 hours instrument time ( which must include 1hour of instrument flight time).
have carried out atleast 3 published instrument approaches (1 of which may be in an approved simulator)
performed in flight or a synthetic trainer , a published approach procedure using similar type of nav aid (either non precision or precision)
a pilot must remain current on the nav aid types to be used (at least one approach in the last 90 days.
demonstrate in the renewal using auto pilot ( or not if not need be) .
for ato's , competency checks every 6months
medical requirements ?
valid medical for licence held.
ppl= class2 medical-endorsed with class 1 hearing
cpl=class 1
what documents must be carried on a ifr flight?
flight manual
airworthiness cert
cert of rego in nz
radio documentation
tech log
weight and balance info

also must carry
enroute ifr maps
aerodrome appch and dept plates
navigation log
a/c maintenance ;
when must must these components be inspected and tested;
radios
altimeters and static pressure system
transponder
ELT
24 MONTHS, 24 MONTHS ,24 MONTHS ,12 MONTHS
What are the minimum instrument requirements for ifr?
And what is needed in addition to this list if flying ifr ato?
ASI IN KNOTS+ MACH METER
AH
DI
SENSITIVE PRESSURE ALTIMETER
OAT GAUGE
TIME
VSI
ALT ALERT SYSTEM OR ASSIGNED ALT INDICATOR
ICE PREVENTION SYSTEMS (PITOT HEAT)
FUEL GAUGES
ENGINE RPM
OIL PRESSURE GAUGES
COOLANT TEMP INDICATION FOR LIQUID COOLED ENGINES
OIL TEMP GAUGES FOR ENGINES OVER 250HP
MAP GAUGE FOR A/C WITH TURBO OR SUPERCHARGED OR CSU EQUIPPED A.C
FLAP INDICATOR
LANDING GEAR POS INDICATOR
CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTOR

ato= additional asi with means of preventing malfunction and additional altimeter plus spare bulbs and fuses are required (landing gear indication)
how many radios are required for ifr and of what standard must they meet?
two radios , level one standard
for ATO ops under ifr , how many of each nav equipment type applicable to your aircraft do you need? and what level of standard must they meet?
2 of each , eg; 2 adf's 2 dme's

level 1 standard
explain alt alert system and what aircraft they apply to
this alert system is set up to provide a visual or arual means of alerting crew when the deviate from a atc assigned altitude. this system is applicable to turbojet and turbofan a.c
Can a a/c operate with out automatic elt ?
yes for upto 7days , and it must be available to all occupants to engage if something went wrong .
a pilots shall not accumulate instrument flight time in vmc towards the required instrument flight time for the issue or recent experience requirement of and instrument rating unless ;
dual controls are fitted which can be fully operated from both seats in controlled air space.
an acceptable mean of simulating instrument flight is used (hood or googles) there is a safety pilot who has adequate forward and side views from the aircraft.
the safety pilot must hold at least a ppl , a type rating in the a.c and current by night , and a current instrument rating.
a pilot shall not accumulate instrument flight experience in imc toward the required instrument flight time for the issue or recent experience requirements of an instrument rating unless ;
the a.c is approved for ifr
fully functioning dual controls are fitted when two pilots are required to be carried.
the pilots holds a current instrument rating for the appropriate a.c category (i.e single engine or multi ) or the pilot is undergoing instruction or flight test under a pic who holds a current instrument rating for that a.c
if an a.c for some reason has to depart from the planned track , ats must be notified immediatly of ?
deviation from track , and must be regained as soon as possible.
a variation of more than %5 of the TAS.
an updated eta if the eta advised to atc is found to be in error of more than two minutes.
please describe the IFR cruising altitudes , below 13000ft and above FL150
Below 13000 , on a heading at or between 270* and 089* you must fly at a odd thousand foot altitude amsl (ie 5000 , 7000 ) ... on a heading at or between 090* and 269* you must fly at a even thousand foot altitude amsl (ie 6000 ,8000 )

when operating at or above FL150 upto FL410 , and a heading at or between 270* and 089* you must fly at any odd flight level starting at FL150 and above ( ie FL170)

heading at or between 269* and 090* you must fly at any even flight level starting at FL160 and above ( ie FL180)
What is the maximum IAS aircraft may operate below 10000ft when in VFR class C , D or G airspace and in IFR in class D , G airspace
250KTS IAS
In absence of prescribed minimum altitudes on given tracks , an a.c operating under ifr shall not fly lower than ;
2000ft above the highest obstacle within a 5nm horizontal radius of the a.c postion when operating over a mountainous zone .
1000 ft above the highest obstacle within a 5nm horizontal radius of the a.c position over any other terrain (except active volcanic zones)
when on decent into an uncontrolled aerodrome ,in IMC , when a traffic conflict is likely , the decent is restricted to "........" ft above "................."
1200ft above aerodrome elevation
each route on a enr chart is given a letter for identification , what do these letters stand for IN REGARDS TO CONVENTIONAL ROUTES ;
-V AND -H
V=ONE WAY
H=TWO WAY
What is the letter used to identify RNAV routes (one way and two way) on ENR charts
Q for two way , Y for one way
met minima for a IFR approach ;
