What is hydrocephalus?

It is excessive volume of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) on the brain.

What is the pathology of hydrocephalus?
|
-Either an obstruction to CSF outflow
-Or an increase in CSF production -Leads to head enlargement, as infants have soft fontanelles between cranial bones. |

What is an Arnold-Chiari Malformation?
|
This is a developmental disorder where there is elongation of the medulla.
The cerebellar tonsils descend through the foramen magnum into the cervical canal. It can cause hydrocephalus by obstruction of CSF outflow. Spina bifida is commonly associated. |
