The one child policy was introduced as the birth rate was higher than the death rate meaning the country was highly overpopulated and predictions began to grow of a famine n the future, which never happened.

The UK has an ageing population which is where we have a large population of people in old age as we have improved our healthcare and way of life. The life expectancy is rising which means more money is needed to be spent on aftercare for people in old age.

Smaller working population and birth rate compared to the death rate creating an imbalance in the population. Not enough money from taxes to pay pensions creating a pension crisis. Less money is spent on education and businesses. Old people have to sell their homes to pay for a care home |
