Less massive, simple ornament. Distinct features are tall and narrow "lancet openings". Projecting buttresses, pinnacles and steep pitched rood.

Early English or Lancet Period

More ornate and elaborated in decoration

Decorated or Geometrical and Curvelinear Period

Rectilinearn, Late Pointed or Lancastarian Period. Use of fan vaults and fan and pendant vaults.

Perpendicular Period

Used in domestic buildings, rather than ecclesiastical buildings. Similar to perpendicular style characteristics are square headed mullion windows ornamental fire places, gables with pinnacles, chimneys and finials.
