Nashville: 1960


500 students began a sitin in a segregated restaurant, they were expelled from their school but let back in after the teachers threatened to leave. By may 1960 the town was desegragated.


Greensboro: 1960


Similar to Greensboro, Woolworths had a segregated lunch counter. 4 blacks sat down and got abuse, 500 students joined them and it spread to other towns. BY end of 1960 segregated lunch counters were banned.

FREEDOM RIDES

Organised by members of the CORE in May 1961. Wanted desegregation after the Montgomery Bus Ruling. 200 arrested. Showed they couldnt be intimidated and showed support from Kennedy.
