|
A neoplastic growth (derived from B and T cells) that originate in the lyphoid tissue. It spreads malignant cells unpredictably, infiltrating the lympoid tissue.

Increased in clients with autoimmune conditions or immunocompromised who have been on immunosupp. meds.
Associated with viral infections (Epstein-Barr) and occupational exposrue to carcinogens. |

Dependent on location may include symptoms that come and go: night sweats, fever and chills, itching, swollen lymph nodes, weight loss

Multiple Myeloma - nursing interventions
|
Adequate hydration to prevent clcium from precipitating in the kidneys, alalgsics for pain, safety meaures to prevent pathologic fractures (do not lift > 10 lbs and proper body mechanics), prevent infection, braces may be necessary to support the spine

Hemophilia - description
|
Defect in the clotting mechanism. Two types Hemophilia A (factor VIII classic type) and B (factor IX deficiency aka Christmas disease)

Both types are recessive disorders - primarily affects males with females being the carrriers

Prolonged and persistant bleeding, hemarthrosis, spontaneous hematuria, hematoma, intracranial hemorrhage, PERECHIAE ARE UNCOMMON, because of platelet count is normal

Tx for hemophilia
|
Factor VIII reconstitutes with sterile water immediately before administration; given IV push ove 50-10 minutes, desmopressin, tx may be at home
