Definition

Caused by a failure of the thermostat in the brain, which regulates body temperature. The body becomes dangerously overheated, due to high fever or prolonged exposure to heat.

Treatment

1. Quickly remove clothing


2. Help them to sit down, supported with cushions.


Wrap in a cold wet sheet (if no sheet, fan or sponge)


3. Once temperature is normal, replace wet sheet with dry one.


4. If vital signs worsen, call 999/112. If temperature rises, repeat cooling process
