What is a mental disorder? How are mental disorders recognized? |
Mental disorder: an illness that affects the mind and reduces a person's ability to function, adapt to change, and get along with others. Mental disorders are recognized by abnormal thoughts, feelings, or behaviors. |

What is an anxiety disorder? What is the key difference between a phobia and generalized anxiety disorder? |
Anxiety disorder-when the anxiety persist for a long time and interferes with daily living. A phobia is a fear with a direct source that causes anxiety. And anxiety disorder is a disorder where anxiety happens without reason. |

What is a compulsion? How does a compulsion differ from an obsession? |
Compulsion: an unreasonable need to behave in a certain way to prevent a feared outcome. A compulsion differs because compulsion makes you do something, obsession causes you to think of something frightening over and over. |

What are some symptoms of a mood disorder? |
- moods that shift from one extreme to its opposite - if someone feels extremely sad and hopeless - abnormal behaviors |

Bulimia: uncontrolled eating binges followed by purging. Bulimia may begin in connection with a diet, but the person soon becomes unable to stop the cycle of bingeing and purging. |
