Sebum
An oily substance that clogs pores
Acne
Occurs when the pores of the skin become clogged with oil
Whitehead
Created when oil becomes trapped inside a pore

A pore that is plugged with oil but is exposed to the air, has a darkened color

Condition that causes the skin to be itchy, scaly, and inflamed

Caused by the over production of skin cells and causes patches of red, scaly skin
Impetigo
A bacterial skin infection that causes itchy, blistering skin that forms a crust, it is highly contagious

The flaking of the outer layer of dead skin cells

Insects that can live in the hair and look much like dandruff until you examine it closely
Keratin
The tough, dead material that makes up our fingernails
Cuticle
Surrounds the nail and is made of non-living skin
Hangnails
Splits in the cuticle along the edge of the nail
Farsightedness
a.k.a. hypermetropia, You can see far objects clearly, but close objects appear blurred
Nearsightedness
a.k.a myopia, You can see close objects clearly, but distant objects appear blurred
Astigmatism
a.k.a distorted vision, images are distorted because the cornea or lens is an irregular shape
Conjunctivitis
a.k.a "pink eye," an infection causing inflamation of the inner surface of the eyelid. This condition is very contagious.
Color Blindness
A hereditary condition where a person cannot distinguish between certain colors. More often found in men than in women.
Lazy Eye
a.k.a amblyopia, a condition where normal vision has failed to develop in one eye. The healthy eye dominates the vision, thus weakens the muscles of the weaker eye.

Clouding of the lens that causes some loss of vision
Glaucoma
A disease where a fluid builds up, damaging the optic nerve because of the pressure. This is very serious and can even lead to blindness

Plaque
A grainy, sticky coating that is constantly forming on your teeth. Consists of saliva, bacteria, and food particles
Tartar
A hard substance formed on your teeth that cannot be remover by brushing your teeth.
Cavity
When the acid eats a hole through the enamel on your teeth
Malocclusion
A condition where the upper and lower teeth do not line up correctly, a small case of this is regular, but more severe ones can be treated with braces

Blister
A water-filled pouch formed at the sight of irritation. Can lead to corns
Corn
An overgrowth of the skin on the toe. Usually caused by poor-fitting shoes. if it gets too thick it must be cut off by a foot specialist.
Callus
A hard, thick part of the skin on the foot. It is caused by the foot rubbing against the shoe
Bunion
A bump on the inside of the foot near the big toe. they are caused by too tight shoes.
Athlete's foot
A problem caused by fungus growing in warm, moist places on the foot. Itching, irritation, and redness occur. very contagious and can be treated with over-the-counter medicine.
In-grown toenails
When the nail cuts into the skin. Caused by improperly cutting the toe nails and shoes that are too tight.
