What is a dangerous occurrence |
A dangerous occurrence is effectively a near miss which could of lead to serious injury or loss of life. The term is defined in the reporting of injuries, diseases and dangerous occurrences regulations. |

A hazard is something with the potential to cause harm. Can include substances, plant or machines. |

What is a risk |
Risk is the likelihood of the potential harm from a hazard being realised. Risk is also linked to the severity of its consequences. A risk can be reduced and the hazard controlled by good management. |
