Homogenization
A trend toward uniformity, as with world popular culture as a result of globalization.
This term can relate to globalization through people of different cultures changing their political views to democracy. And trying to look like the greatest the super power.
Acculturation
Change as a result of contact with other cultural groups. When First Nations came in contact with the Europeans they changed as a result of contact. Iraq changed their political view when the US invaded, not the only cause for their invasion though. 1 (Isolation of one culture so much so that when they meet another culture they take on practices and use them as their own.
Assimilation
The absorption of a minority group by a dominant group. First Nations were assimilated to suit the norms and qualities of Europeans. The assimilation of African tribes into European society. Globalization through this eradicates all form of that cultures religion into one form. 0.5 clarify Different cultures and dominant society will have a bigger impact on cultures
Accommodation
An inclusive approach that allows religious or ethnic groups to maintain their distinctive cultures within a mainstream society. Through the use of reserve land Canadian aboriginal peoples were allowed to keep their religion. African tribes are also allowed to keep their religion. Globalization allows all indigenous tribes to keep their religion and culture through the use of reserve land. 1 (an existing cultural group allows for the existence for other cultures groups) 0.5 (Because of exposure to media, etc. it is easier for us to discern how we will accommodate different people, global needs, etc.
Integration
The incorporation of diverse minority groups into mainstream society. The integration of Latin Americans into America. ? Globalization through integration is the control of an entire nation without pockets of other independent tribes of peoples 1 (sometimes you would take on certain cultural beliefs in order to benefit you) 1 ( on a global scale there is practices that open up the ability to practice other cultures etc.
Marginalization
The pushing of a group to the “margins” of society, where they hold little social, political, or economic power. This too also happened with the First Nations society in Canada. Mexican community in America. This results in globalization through mass populations trying to look like the world’s greatest superpower.
Universalization of Pop Culture
the production by media transnationals of the majority of television programs, films, magazines and so on that are consumed by a vast world audience. British Music video shows that show the top 25 songs. Over played songs on the radio station. Globalization through the universalization of pop culture is affected by the media and only allows people to like what songs the media play on the radio stations. 1 (media, music, are open for everyone in the global world
Hybridization
The blending of media and communications technologies resulting in new modes of expression and cross-cultural consumption. Facebook is used by everyone in the world. ITunes the leading music seller company. Globalization through the uses of Facebook does not provide competition between different companies so as to prefer people’s opinions towards these sites and companies
Diversification
The act or practice of manufacturing a variety of products, investing in a variety of securities, selling a variety of merchandise, etc., so that a failure in or an economic slump affecting one of them will not be disastrous. Nike selling different shoes, sport shirts and gear. Apple through the selling of products like the IPhone, IPad, IPod, and Mac. Globalization is shown through this because most countries in the world go to these stores to buy these products.
Cultural Revitalization
A process through which unique cultures regain a sense of identity, such as through promoting heritage languages or reviving traditions and customs. First Nations through the constant amendments and revisions of the Indian Act. African Americans living in America have regained a sense of identity due to the less racism
Dualism (cultural definition)
Two cultures that are distinctly recognized. Those distinct cultures are francophone and Anglophones. French and English battling for Canada. The minority francophone population and the majority Anglophone population were recognized as Canada’s two prominent cultures.
