How would you test for sugars?

Get 5cm(cubed) of food sample in test tube, put test tube in water bath at 75°C, add 10 drops of Benedicts solution, leave for 5 minutes. If sugars are present, the colour should from Blue to Green, Yellow or Brick red (depends on how much sugar there is)

How would you test for starch?

Get 5cm(cubed) of food sample and put in test tube. Add 3 drops of iodine solution and gently shake. If the starch is present, the could shouls go from browny orange to blue-black or black.

How would you test for proteins?

Get 2cm(cubed) of food sample in test tube. Add 2cm(cubed) of Buiret solution and gently shake. If protein is present, it should go from Blue to Purple. (If no protein, it remains blue)

How would you test for Lipids?

Get 5cm(cubed) of unfiltered food sample in test tube, then add 3 drops of Sudan III, and shake. If Lipids are present, 2 layers will form, the top being bright red. (If no Lipids, no new layer)

How would you test for glucose?

Add 5cm(cubed) of food sample in test tube. Heat, and add 5 drops of Benedicts solution. If glucose is present, it should go from Blue to Orange.
