Conjunctiva

Eyelids are lined on the inside by a mucous membrane (conjunctiva) which produces mucus that helps lubricate the eye.

Meibomian Glands

Tiny openings at the eyelid margins that produce oil which becomes part of the tear film.

Eyelid Margins

The area immediately behind the lashes.

Nasal

Nose-side, or medial.

Temporal

Ear-side, or lateral.

Canthus

The corner of each eye. There is a nasal and temporal canthus.

Caruncle

Mound of pink tissue in the nasal canthus. Contains some oil glands and hair follicles.

Puncti (Punctum, singular)

The puncti drain tears from the eye.

Nasolacrimal system

The eye's tear system.

Sclera

The white of the eye. Tough, fibrous tissue that helps maintain the eye's shape and protects the inner structures.

Cornea

Clear covering over the colored part of the eye (like a windshield).

Macula

Small area in the centre of the retina that consists of several layers of tiny cells (which can deteriorate usually later in life, macular degeneration, so blurred/lost vision). It's responsible for what we see directly in front of us (central vision) and it gives us the vision needed for fine detail stuff like reading, writing, and appreciating color.

Iris

It's between the anterior and posterior chamber. It controls the amount of light entering the eye.
