In the expression, (24+40) you find the greatest common factor (GCF) of the expression (24, 40). You then place that number (8) on the paper. Make one perenthace after that number (8). Then in the parentheses, you find the number in the parentheses (3+5) by doing that number (8) ÷ by the first number in the expression (24). That is three. The expression has a + sign, so you bring that down. Then ÷ that number (8) by the second number in the expression (40). That is five. Now add your the last perenthace and you are done!
