What is an edema?

What are 3 forms of anthrax?

- cutaneous anthrax (endospores enter through a minor cut/anthrax lesion- 20% mortality rate)


- gastrointestinal anthrax (ingestion of undercooked, contaminated food- 50% mortality rate)


- inhalational (pulmonary) anthrax (inhalation of endospores, bacteria enter the bloodstream, progresses into septic shock- nearly 100% mortality rate)

What is gangrene?

Gangrene is a type of necrosis- death of soft tissue, black dying tissue.


Loss of blood supply can lead to an anaerobic growth of certain bacteria.
