What is the compliment systems role in the defense of the body? |
The complement system leads to inflammation, cytolysis. The complement proteins bind together to form a pore in the microbes cell membrane called the membrane attach complex (MAC), causing cytolysis and death. |

Adaptive immunity is the 3rd and final line of defense after the inate immunity fails to destroy or remove the microbial pathogen. |

Humoral and cell-mediated. Humoral- includes B lymphocytes (B cells), antibodies and combats extracellular pathogens. Cell mediated- includes T cells, interact with APCs (antigen presenting cells) and combats intracellular pathogens. |
