Normal Body Temperature is

97.6-100 degrees F

Hypothalamus Regulates

Heat loss and contract blood vessels to release heat

Vasocontriction happens when

the body is cold

Most common sign that our body wants to remove cold air from our body

Body shivers

What is Thermoregulation

The way the body maintains heat production and heat loss

Oral temperature is

The most common, in the mouth. Normal oral temp 98.6O degrees

Axillary temp is

Takin in the armpit. Least accurate. Normal temp is 97.6 A

Tympanic temp is

In the Ear. Pretty accurate. Normal 97.6T

Rectal temp is

The most accurate. Takin in rectum. 99.6 R

Temporal temp is

Takin on forhead from one tempol to the other. Pretty accurate and non invasive. Normal temp 100 TA

Hyperthermia

Hot. Temp above 99.5. A fever exist. Patient is febrile. More oxygen is consumed so more carbon dioxide is released.

Hypothermia

Temp below 97.7. Could happen from trauma to the brain. Could be a response to environmental temperature or Could be medical induced for surgery

Respiratory Rate is

Pace at which the body exchanges oxygen and carbon dioxide

The major muscle for breathing is the

Diaphragm

Inspiration is

Inhalation. Inhale of oxygen

Expiration is

Exhale of oxygen

Respiratory is

Breaths/min -1min

Normal respiration rate

12-20 breaths/min for adult

Under 10yrs old 20-30 breaths/min

Newborn 40-60 breaths/min

Tachypnea

Respiratory rate greater than 20 breaths/min

Bradypnea

Decrease is respiratory rate -lower than 12 breaths/min

Apnea is

Absence of spontaneous ventilation

Pulse rate is

The rapidity of each heart contraction. Normal 60-100 bpm for adults

Tachycardia causes

Fever, anemia, Respiratory disorders, congestive heart failure, shock

Bradycardia causes

A decreased heart rate from unreleaved pain.

Irregular pulse causes

Palpation, dizziness, faintness and Sincope-fainting passing out

Systolic blood pressure

Peak pressure on the arterial wall during contraction on the heart

Diastolic pressure

Pressure on the arterial walls- relaxation of the heart

Normal blood pressure

120/80 mmHg

Hypertension is

High blood pressure referred to as the silent killer. Can cause, stroke, heart attack, heart failure and arterial aneurysm

Hypotension is

Low blood pressure. Can be associated with shock

Hypertension is more common in

African Americans and men

Pre-hypertension

120-139s 80-89d

Stage 1 hypertension

140-149s. 90-99d

Stage 2 hypertension

160 or higher s 100 or higher d

Oxygen is a

Tasteless, colorless, orderless gas. It is treated as a drug and has to be ordered by the Nurse and has to be prescribed.

Oxygen concentration should be at

100 percent but 90 percent is fine
