What is the individual tank and total capacity in the LR?

5,717 lbs per wing

11,434 lbs total

When is the FUEL 1 (2) LO LEVEL warning annunciated?

Between 463 and 584 lbs

(Less than 30 mins of fuel)

What is the purpose of the collector box?

To keep fuel pumps submerged at all times.

(This prevents cavitation and ensure that the pumps remain properly cooled.)

What two devices ensure enough fuel in the collector box in all conditions?

Flapper valves and an ejector pump

How does the ejector pump operate?

The ejector pump uses pressurized return fuel from the engine to draw new fuel from the fuel tank through a venturi and into the collector box.

(The circulation resulting from the ejector pump is called motive flow)

Where is the fuel temp for the E1 (2) FUEL LO TEMP caution measured?

Leaving the FCOC

(Fuel temp in the engine has dropped below 5 degrees C)

Where is the MFD fuel tank temp measured?

Left fuel tank

(Minimum Tank Temp is -54 degrees C)

(FUEL TANK LO TEMP caution will display at -40 degrees C)

How does fuel flow from the wing tip to the wing root?

Gravity

(Collector box is kept full with flapper valves and the ejector pump)

What is the purpose of the fuel tank vent system?

To prevent the sealed wing tanks from being damaged by excessive positive or negative pressure.

How are the fuel tanks vented?

There is a surge box near the wing tip vented by a NACA duct, connected to the fuel tank via two float valves.

(One float valve is next to the surge box and one is near the wing root.)

How many fuel pumps are there and how are they powered?

3 electric fuel pumps per tank.

Pump A: On-side Essential

Pump B: Cross-side Essential

Pump C: On-side DC

How many pumps are active during normal flight?

1

(Desired pump should be selected and Pump Power turned ON)

When will the standby pumps cycle on?

When the fuel pressure falls below 6.5 psi.

(The standby pumps will cycle on and off in unison to maintain greater than 6.5 psi until an operative pump is selected)

If all electric pumps fail, will the engines still operate?

Yes, up to 25,000 ft.

(The FPMUs are capable of producing sufficient suction up to 25,000 ft.)

What happens when LOW 1 is selected?

The left tank's electric pumps are turned off and the crossfeed valve is opened.

Can fuel be transferred from tank to tank?

No.

Where does the APU normally draw its fuel?

From the Right tank.

(TANK 1 ON and LOW 2 selected will allow fuel to flow to the APU from the Left tank.)

When will the E1 (2) FUEL LO PRESS caution be displayed?

When fuel pressure drops below 6.5 psi.

In Essential Power mode (loss of all generators) and Pump C selected, will the engines flame out?

No.

(The A and B pumps will cycle on in unison to maintain fuel pressure. This is not displayed because the MFDs will be unpowered.)

Does one pump provide sufficient pressure for flight?

(Such as during cross-feed operation)

For all phases of flight except take-off and go-around.

When will the FUEL IMBALANCE caution be displayed? When will the FUEL EQ XFEED OPN caution be displayed?

FUEL IMBALANCE: 800 lb difference (You have exceeded the limitation!)

FUEL EQ XFEED OPN: 100 lb difference, crossfeed valve open

What happens to the associated fuel system when the Fire Handle is pulled?

The Engine Fuel Shutoff Valve (in the wing root) is closed.

(This is the only way to close this valve.)

Can a pilot authorize and supervise defueling?

No.

(Defueling must be authorized by TSA maintenance and supervised by TSA or on-demand maintenance.)

Does the pressure refueling panel require generator or GPU power?

No.

(It is on the Hot Battery Bus.)

When will the APU Fuel Shutoff Valve close?

APU Master set to OFF

APU Stop button pressed

APU Fuel Shutoff button pressed

APU Fire Extinguishing button pressed

Automatically on the ground when a fire is detected or other failure is detected.
