Adipocere
Decomposition of lipids or body fats broken down by enzimes called lipase. The products are glycerol and fatty acids. The byproducts do not affect embalming because they do not affect ph, do not give bad odors. The fatty acids are believed to form "grave wax" after 3 months or more
grave wax
Agonal
The agonal period occurs prior to the point in the process where the body losses its ability to sustain vital physiologic and metabolic activities. Period before somatic death. Agonal refers to death or dying. During the agonal period the body is said to be moribund, a dying condition or dying.
Before death.
Agonal algor
The cooling or lowering of the body temperature just prior to death. Often seen in the death of elderly patients when death occurs slowly. The metabolism has slowed so the circulatory system
cooling temperature before death.
Agonal coagulation
It occurs as the circulation of blood slows and the formed elements of the blood begin to cloth and congeal.
One of the three circulatory changes during the agonal period.
Agonal dehydration
It is a decrease in the amount of moisture, or fluids, in the tissues and body cavities. It may result from disease processes or from agonal capillary expansion.
Opposite of Agonal edema. One of the two types of moisture change during the agonal period.
Agonal edema
It is an increase in the amount of moisture, or fluids, in the tissues and body cavities. It may result from disease processes or from agonal capillary expansion.
Opposite of Agonal dehydration. One of the two types of moisture change during the agonal period.
Agonal fever
It is an increase of the body temperature just prior to death. This is often seen in persons with infection, toxemia, or certain types of poisoning. Frequently, elevated temperature can stimulate microbial growth.
increasing temperature before death.
Agonal hypostasis
It is the settling of blood into the dependent tissues of the body. It occurs as a result of the slowing of circulation just prior to death, which allows the force of gravity to overcome the force of circulation.
One of the three circulatory changes during the agonal period.
Agonal period
The period of time over where a sequence of steps occur and can be described as an expanding inability of the body to sustain the physiologic and metabolic processes that are necessary for life. It can be short as a result sudden or fatal injuries or long over an extended period of time due to death caused by chronic illness.
Period before death.
Algor mortis
It is the postmortem cooling of the body. The body will cool to equal the surrounding temperature (environment).Rate of cooling dependes of intrinsec and extrinsinc factors.
cooling after death.
Anaerobic bacteria
Protein decomposition is known as putrefaction, some restrict the term to the decomposition of proteins by anaerobic bacteria.
bacterias that grow in the absence of free oxigen.
