A member of Group 17 of the periodic table. Many of the properties of the halogens vary in a regular fashion from fluorine (F) through Chlorine (Cl) and bromine (Br) to Iodine (I). Fluorine, for instance, is a very pale yellow, almost ordorless gas, chlorine a yellow-green gas, bromine a red-brown liquid, and iodine a purple-black solid.
